Roundabout ImprovementsAfter a considerable amount of background work by your ward councillors and council staff, including our former Street Warden, the roundabouts at both ends of Shirley Avenue on the Davis Estate have been improved to increase safety for drivers, bike-riders and pedestrians.

At the Maidstone Road end, the big roundabout has had the overgrown foliage removed, and it is now so flat that anyone approaching the roundabout or a pedestrian attempting to cross any of the four roads there can see what traffic there is, where it is and how fast it is moving.

Similarly, at the other end of the Shirley Avenue shopping parade, the "inner" roundabout has had its big bush first cut down, and then removed and replaced by five silver birch saplings. These trees will look good at all times of the year, and the whole site will be maintained under an initial two-year contract, under a scheme paid for out of the ward councillors' Improvement Fund.
All this is part of the ongoing environmental enhancement that has been going on—some visibly, some not so obvious—ever since the change of political complexion of Medway Council almost four years ago. .
