Speech prepared for the full Council meeting on 4th November 2004
Thank you, Mr Mayor, members.
When I recently substituted on Health and Community Overview and Scrutiny, Mr Mayor, I was so pleased to be able to relate my personal experiences of the work of the Community Safety Street Team, and both my own and my residents‘ very positive attitude towards this vital work.
We now have eleven fully-accredited Wardens in the scheme, which is a superb situation, Mr Mayor!
One could wish that all the other groups in this Chamber would have the same outlook as ours, but several of those members have shown a generally unhelpful attitude toward the real-life needs of Medway residents in wanting to disband the service.
Mr Mayor, I know that those of us on this side of the chamber genuinely do appreciate the work of the Community Safety Street Team and also applaud all the work done by the Portfolio Holder, Councillor Mrs Prodger, on this.
