Speech delivered to the full Council meeting on 15th June 2006
Thank you Mr Mayor.
It is worth pointing out the import of paragraph 8.1 on page 97 which means that, although any undesirable elements of the LDF will no doubt be blamed on this Council, it is because we have to comply with the wishes of outsiders—in this case, Madam Mayor, in the form of the unelected South-East England Regional Assembly with its own agenda—that we are undoubtedly being forced in directions that our residents would not necessarily wish to go.
Government impositions such as hugely increased density of housing and very little parking provision are responsible for most of the issues with proposed and upcoming developments, and we are being required to conform to the South East Plan which is the latest way to enforce the Government‘s lower standards upon us.
But then it‘s always the same in socialist and communist-style national-level dictatorships such as the one we currently have in twenty-first century Britain...
Even so, this Administration will continue to ensure high standards that are more closely tuned to the needs and wishes of our residents, despite all that the Labour Government inflict on us.
Thank you very much, Mr Mayor.
John M Ward (Councillor, Rochester South and Horsted)
