This comes from Callum's grandfather, Alan Bell:
Callum suffered from a vicious Strep-B infection at birth which affected his lungs and heart. It was only some miraculous care by Great Ormond Street that saved him after pioneering treatment. As he was the first baby to survive this treatment the effects were unknown, he could have had suffered severe brain damage or anything..Until recently all seemed fine but during a recent school medical it was found that he is almost totally blind in one eye. This may not seem much, but the his family seem to have been dogged with bad luck and this was just what they don't need at the moment. Fortunately they are moving back to Gloucester soon so my wife and I will be around to help.
He is a cheerful lad but at times this shock affects him and we have to reassure him that all will be well.
I am disabled myself after an accident 20 years ago so I feel for him very much on top of my love for him as a grandfather.
