Prayer Requests: Special Events

Along with many others, I wish to invite your prayers for all those affected by the terrorist attacks in the USA on Tuesday (11^th September 2001), for all those caught up in the subsequent conflict, and for the governments and other agencies involved to have wisdom in how they proceed: for justice that is not only done but is seen to be done, but not for revenge or any other motivation that could well lead to escalation.

Only our dear Lord can provide that degree of wisdom, and we must pray most fervently that all those to whom He offers it will accept it and act appropriately.

Here is a prayer written by an eight-year-old girl: it is remarkable and so apt.

I pray for the people who are in the rubble
I pray for the people who are in trouble
I pray for the people in the plane
I pray for the people that are in pain

I pray for the people with bones that are bent
I pray for the people that are innocent
I pray for the people that are injured and hurt
I pray for the people who are covered in dirt

I pray for the people that did survive
I pray for the people that aren't alive
I pray for the people who have lost a friend
I really really hope that that's the end!

Another prayer, this from a girl named Janet in the USA:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We are moved by the alarming news and crisis that we are facing. This great nation, founded in the belief that "In God We Trust" the "Land of the Free".

Please have mercy on those suffering, hurting and in fear, and give wisdom strength to those who are assisting.

May the forces of evil be broken by your power and may we humble before thee, our strength and refuge. Give wisdom to all our leaders and bring your comforting peace through the power of your Holy Spirit.

Help us here to reach to those that have been affected by this tragedy.

In the name of our Lord and Saviour, Christ Jesus.

AMEN

Now with the conflict in Afghanistan at a transitional stage, would you please also:

Pray that a stable, fair, new government, which is desperately needed, will be established in due course.
Pray that the flow of relief supplies will get where it's most needed.
Pray that this tragic war will come to an end SOON, that children can live without fear and be able to smile again.
Continue to pray that vengeance will be left to God, and not taken out on those belonging to other communities.
